Personality
Rayla is my first homegrown keeper girl. She's a daughter of Yue, from our „Lost River B-litter“ with Ukiah.
She is a funny, lovable crazy and fearless dog that I ordered from the universe. I wanted a small copy of Yue in blue merle. The name was also certain, because Rayla means "ray of moonlight" and Yue means "moon". Rayla stayed small, the color is also correct, but otherwise she totally takes after her father – who is a just as pretty, friendly, open-minded and social dog as Yue and Rayla are, but otherwise is rather exhausting due to his drive. Unfortunately, Rayla didn't get much of the inner calm and serenity that I love so much about Yue – Rayla only chews her food or bones in peace of mind. At home, in the car or at events (both free or in a crate) she is absolutely calm, uncomplicated and a really cute, cheerful girl, who has a very loving and open-minded nature, so that you don't have be angry with her at all, because inside she's always a good girl. Outside, on the other hand, a certain intolerance to frustration and a low stimulus threshold (which is endless in Yue's case) are noticeable. So even the weakest optical stimulus can be a small or a big challenge, because Rayla's herding instinct is also pronounced. She focusses on the optical stimulus and sometimes on people or dogs without responding to me. On the other hand, if I put her on the leash when we are approached by strange dogs, she becomes frustrated and pulls on the leash because she wants to run to them immediately. That's why we work on keeping her attention and concentration to me, so that unimportant stimuli are ignored and that other dogs are always approached without pulling on the leash. Staying cool when we're out and about in stressful situations is definitely something I need to practice with Rayla – which wasn't the case with the 4 Parson Russell Terriers, nor the 6 Mini Aussies I raised before Rayla, as they always automatically bonded and behaved in an exemplary manner everywhere – with Rayla, on the other hand, there is (still) a lot of work to ensure that she remains reliably relaxed in every situation.
All in all, Rayla gets on my nerves from time to time, but would probably be a dream dog for everyone else, because she likes dogs, animals and even the strangest people right away, is incredibly smart and learns quickly, is extremely happy and works great in obedience and sport – and she is also extremely cuddly; which is actually atypical for females. Her uniquely funny habits, like her love for music, playing and sleeping in the empty bathtub quite natural, or stealing my dirty laundry and hiding it in the toy box or sleeping on it, make her to a cute and cheerful companion (despite the odd little quirks).
